Model Call: Lena Hardt
Emma Ward | Wwd.com | Jul 24, 2012 "I live in a math world!" It's not a statement one typically hears in the modeling industry, yet German newcomer Lena Hardt is living proof of beauty and brains. Not only is she concentrating on math and art in high school, but both of her parents are math teachers (and then some; read on). It's no wonder they were "very skeptical at first" when Hardt told them she wanted to start modeling. But after a very successful debut season - she walked in fall shows for Yves Saint Laurent, Versace and Burberry Prorsum - Mom and Dad are coming around to the idea. The 17-year-old, who's repped by DNA, is currently in New York for a short summer modeling stay before she heads home to Cologne for her last year of school in the "math world." Heidi Klum Was Once Rejected For Being Busty And Curvy
News & Events | Apr 18, 2012 The most popular Victoria's Secret's model Heidi Klum reminisces her struggling days when she got rejected many a times by many designers who thought her figure was not just right for their creations. According to them, she was too curvy, too busty to be a model. But modeling was the only thing on this German lass's mind and she carved her own way she was too confident about her curvaceous figure. She made these confessions and said, "I was too curvy and too busty and a little too short, and I was a little bit self-conscious about it. But I was by no means heavy, I just - well, you have hips and boobs, and that's it. Haute couture, you don't really see girls with big boobs. And I always wanted first to be a model. So I had to say, 'OK, you're going to find other things to do in this industry, or it's maybe not my industry.'" More from Heidi at Newsnevents.com Top
Stunning Scottish trio embrace their natural curves in plus-size model industry
Amanda Keenan | Daily Record | Apr 18, 2012 MEET the new generation of young models who have turned their back on the stick thin look choosing instead to embrace their natural curves. Despite being classed in the fashion industry as plus sized, the girls range between a healthy size 12 to 14, and their womanly shapes has already caught the attention of a top Glasgow based modelling agency. While the average dress size for women is a size 16, very rarely are realistic body shapes portrayed in fashion. Scottish plus size model Angelica Grey is bucking this trend and paving the way for aspiring fuller-figured models. The world's oldest supermodel
Liz Jones | Mail Online | Apr 15, 2012 At 83, Daphne Selfe appears in Vogue and struts along the Paris catwalks. Her secret? Long hair, no Botox and a dollop of Boots facecream. But there is one poster that shows a woman who is very different from the rest. A mane of silver hair, an etiolated neck, high cheekbones, bright, intelligent, lively eyes, and all 83 of her years etched upon her face. This is Daphne Selfe. She is certainly one of the most beautiful women on the wall, and also one of the bravest - because she has just agreed to pose as Madonna in her prime. And if that were not enough, she is wearing only the iconic conical bra and corset made by Jean Paul Gaultier for the singer's Blonde Ambition tour in 1990. Read the story at Mail Online Top
Model Call: Marina Heiden
Taylor Harris | WWD | Apr 10, 2012 Marina Heiden is not your typical Brazilian bombshell. With her auburn mane and dainty, quirky bone structure, her look is far from commercial. "No one believes me but I really am Brazilian," says the 18-year-old, who hails from Santa Catarina. Yet it's that offbeat appeal that landed Heiden a contract with Wilhelmina, not to mention two of the biggest shows of the fall season: Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. "I was in the train thinking, 'Oh my God, I'm walking Louis Vuitton.' It was unbelievable." Read Maria's interview at WWD Top

The 23-year-old, one of Britain's top black models, has just launched her first fashion collection. But Eunice, who grew up in Edinburgh, yesterday told how her rise to the top has not been easy. The Nigerian, who has graced the covers of magazines in Paris and New York, admits being a dark-skinned model in the UK has had its challenges. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: the face of 2012.
Jess Cartner-Morley | Guardian.co.uk | Mar 16, 2012 With the Marks & Spencer and Burberry accounts already in the bag, an LA pad and a Hollywood boyfriend, the girl who grew up on a Devon farm has come a long way. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is the face of 2012. In an era when most models in catwalk shows and designer advertising campaigns are anonymous to all but those inside the industry, she has both high end and commercial appeal. She has appeared on the covers of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, but can also be found on the walls of teenage boys' bedrooms all over the country (as a one-time Victoria's Secret model, she retains a loyal lads-mag following). She is also the face of Burberry's new fragrance (Christopher Bailey, she says, is "the nicest man in fashion, just head and shoulders above the rest"). With the high-end and low-brow audiences thus assured, last year Huntington-Whiteley, who is 24, added the final piece of the jigsaw when she landed what is perhaps the most high-profile modelling job in the country, as the star of the new Marks & Spencer Autograph campaign. In terms of commercial fashion, which actually influences the way a nation dresses, what M&S puts on its billboards carries more clout than any inside-front-cover magazine ad. Maureen Coleman | Belfasttelegraph.co.uk | Mar 16, 2012 Linda Evangelista was once quoted as saying "I don't get out of bed for less than $10,000." In the early 1990s the Canadian supermodel was at the top of her game and helped change the face of the fashion industry. Modelling became the new rock 'n' roll - a lucrative and exciting career, offering a jet-set lifestyle of non-stop partying and exotic photo-shoots. But is modelling really that glamorous a job or just endless rounds of castings, catwalks and cups of coffee? As Belfast Fashionweek returns for its 13th season, we ask three local models to dispel the myths and reveal what it's really like to strut your stuff for a living. Andrej Pejic - the fashion model with two genders
Felicia Hawke | Daily Gosspip | Feb 10, 2012 Andrej Pejic is one of the most appreciated fashion models at present because he can embody both genders, says Fox News. Although he did not suffer any sex change interventions, Pejic can easily transform himself into a woman due to his fair complexion and fragile traits. His androgyny attracts many designers because they can thus use one single model for their male and female collections. Androgyny was a recurrent fashion trend in the past years, but it was usually noticeable in the aspect of the clothes and the look of the makeup. Andrej Pejic changed everyone’s mentality by showing that you can actually have a person with ambiguous gender. More from Daily Gossip Top

Laura Bailey: 'If you'd told me 15 years ago I'd still be modelling – well, I would have laughed in your face'
Jess Cartner-Morley | Guardian.co.uk | Jan 27, 2012 Jess Cartner-Morley meets Laura Bailey – model and London Fashion Week ambassador. London Fashion Week, being rather grand these days, has three ambassadors. One of them you will almost certainly have heard of – she's called Samantha Cameron - and one of them you may not, unless you are a keen reader of the fashion blogs and gossip columns Poppy Delevigne stars in. Bluntly put, one gets British designers into the Downing Street drawing room, and the other looks very pretty in their clothes. The third is Laura Bailey, who is not so easy to pigeonhole. She has been a model for 15 years, and dominated British billboards for several years last decade as one of the original line-up of M&S "girls", alongside Twiggy. As a one-time girlfriend of Richard Gere and the longtime partner of Working Title film producer Eric Fellner, she has played the Blonde Girlfriend on the outer edge of a lot of paparazzi pictures. She counts Sheherazade Goldsmith and Thandie Newton among her best friends, and does the Notting Hill school run in Stella McCartney most days. Read Jess's interview in Guardian.co.ukTop
