In an attempt to defend claims that she and her model peers are too thin, Natalia Vodianova, a top Russian fashion model, has said: 'It's better to be skinny than to be fat.'
The 30-year-old, who lives in the UK, dropped the line as she was discussing healthy body image in front of an audience of fans at London's 2012 Vogue Festival last weekend.
The outspoken mother of three, who had spoken as part of a panel of interviewed models that also included Lily Cole, Eva Herzigova and Jourdan Dunn, had been responding to a question from Calgary Avansino, the magazine's executive fashion director, about the 'very thin' physiques of models.
